LBUSD project profile

Across the neighborhoods of Long Beach, LBUSD classrooms stand as the foundation of opportunity where students gather, explore and discover new ways of thinking. The district’s commitment to creating supportive and modern learning environments ensures that each room not only functions as a place of instruction but as a setting where imagination, understanding and community thrive. The AV upgrade reinforces this purpose and elevates the daily experience of every learner and educator.

Project Description

The LBUSD AV Upgrade project delivered a full modernization of thirty six (36) classrooms across three (3) active campuses. Each school had its own character and layout, yet all shared one goal which was to create a consistent and dependable environment for teaching and learning. Our team entered each site during the summer break while classrooms still carried the energy of a long school year. The upgrade included replacing outdated projection systems, removing legacy televisions and cabling, and bringing in a unified AV platform that supports clear visuals, strong audio and simple daily operation.

Every room received a complete Extron classroom system paired with a bright Epson PowerLite L210SW laser projector. New screens were installed with clean alignment. Cabling pathways were carefully planned to work around the unique conditions of each portable classroom. The end result was a transformed learning space that supports both teachers and students every day.

The Challenge

Completing work across three different campuses required steady coordination and adaptability. Some rooms had usable conduits while others needed new pathways for networking and power. Each layout presented its own obstacles, from ceiling structures that required added support to classroom walls filled with teacher materials and student work that needed to be protected and restored exactly as found.

Another challenge was integrating all systems into LBUSD’s districtwide Global Viewer Enterprise platform. This required close coordination with district IT to ensure accurate IP assignments, switch configurations and new data drops. Scheduling also required flexibility because certain classrooms remained in use during summer programs. Our team worked with the district to sequence construction in a way that respected room availability and minimized disruption.

The LBUSD AV Upgrade project modernized thirty six classrooms across Gant Elementary School, Tincher Preparatory School and Los Cerritos Elementary School with new laser projectors, Extron classroom systems, improved audio components and structured cabling integrated into the district’s network management platform. These enhancements delivered clearer visuals, stronger sound and a consistent user experience for teachers across all sites, resulting in a reliable and efficient AV environment that supports smoother instruction and a more engaging learning experience for students

Technologies and Solutions Used

1. Laser Projection Systems

Each classroom received an Epson PowerLite L210SW short throw laser projector, selected for its brightness, clarity and ability to minimize shadows. These projectors were installed with proper mounting hardware and reinforced support to ensure long term stability and alignment.

2. Extron Classroom Platform

The upgrade introduced a complete Extron system that included the PVS407D switcher, FF120 speakers, MLC Plus control interface, wireless microphone kit and paging sensor. All programming followed LBUSD standards, giving teachers a familiar and consistent control experience in every room.

3. Structured Cabling and Network Integration

New Cat6A cabling was installed where needed to tie each classroom into the district’s Global Viewer Enterprise network. All pathways were cleaned up or rebuilt using new wiremold, surface mount boxes and proper labeling to match LBUSD’s Structured Cabling specifications.

4. Classroom Screens and Connectivity

New Da-Lite manual projection screens were installed with careful alignment, using wall or ceiling mounting depending on room conditions. Each classroom also received HDMI cables and device adaptors so teachers could easily connect a wide range of laptops and tablets without setup issues.

Project Outcome

When the work reached completion, all three campuses experienced a noticeable improvement in daily classroom function. Teachers now walk into rooms with confidence knowing that their displays, sound and device connections will work the same way every time. Students benefit from sharper visuals, clearer audio and a more engaging learning experience that supports both traditional and digital teaching styles.

The district now has a unified AV standard across thirty six rooms which simplifies maintenance, training and future upgrades. Integration with Global Viewer Enterprise gives LBUSD the ability to monitor, manage and troubleshoot systems remotely which increases efficiency and reduces downtime. What began as a collection of aging classroom systems became a modern network of reliable teaching tools. The LBUSD AV Upgrade now plays a meaningful role in strengthening instruction for hundreds of students across these three schools.
