LACOE Project profile
Dedicated to advancing educational excellence and strengthening community impact, the Los Angeles County Office of Education’s Head Start and Early Learning Division (HSEL) provides critical resources, training, and support for children, families, and educators across the county. To further this mission, HSEL partnered with EIDIM to modernize the audiovisual systems in its conference and training rooms. These spaces play a vital role as venues for staff development, parent engagement, and collaborative planning with partner agencies, making them central to the division’s vision of delivering high-quality early learning services.
Project Description
The Los Angeles County Office of Education’s (LACOE) Head Start and Early Learning Division is the heart of training and collaboration for educators and staff across the county. These spaces are where professional development, technical assistance, and parent workshops take place. But the conference and training rooms were equipped with aging AV systems that no longer supported today’s hybrid communication needs.
LACOE set out to modernize these fourteen rooms, ensuring every space—big or small—could host effective meetings, whether in person, virtual, or hybrid. The project called for more than just new screens and microphones. Each room required a tailored solution, respecting how it was used and ensuring technology remained simple, intuitive, and dependable.
The Challenge
The project’s main challenge was scope and consistency. Fourteen rooms, each with a different layout and use case, needed upgrades. Some were small breakout spaces, others were combined rooms capable of hosting large gatherings. LACOE needed a system that unified these spaces under a consistent standard, while also accommodating their unique requirements. Technology had to feel invisible—powerful under the hood, but effortless for staff to use.
The Los Angeles County Office of Education – Head Start Conference and Training Room A/V Refresh project focused on upgrading audiovisual systems to support collaboration, training, and hybrid participation. Enhancements included high-definition displays, integrated video conferencing, improved audio clarity, and intuitive control systems, creating versatile spaces that empower staff, educators, and families to connect more effectively.
Rooms with Upgraded AV
Room 100J
Removal of old SMART Board and AV hardware. Installed a 90-inch display, integrated with Polycom X50 conferencing camera, table controller, HDMI-to-USB-C adapter ring, and AV controller to handle wireless casting, in-room PC, and podium PC integration.
Rooms 101A–101F
Replacement of 90-inch TVs with wireless casting capability. Added conference phones for Zoom Rooms, adapter rings at podiums, surge protectors for all conference tables, and podium anchoring for stability. Each space gained consistent connectivity for both individual and combined use.
Room 104
Equipped with a 90-inch display, Polycom X50 camera, and AV controller with multiple input integration (wireless casting, HDMI docking, podium PC). Designed for flexible training or meeting use.
Rooms 105, 106, 108
Complete removal of old projectors and control systems. Installed two 90-inch displays per room, new intuitive control systems, podiums with HDMI adapter rings, wireless microphones (handheld, lavalier, podium), and ceiling speakers. Surge protectors were added to all conference tables.
Rooms 109, 110, 111
Designed for flexible separate or combined use. Installed LED video wall displays, 90-inch TVs, and a central AV control system in a dedicated closet. Outfitted with wireless microphones (handheld, lavalier, podium), desktop gooseneck transmitters for board meetings, and surge-protected conference tables. These rooms became the most advanced in the project, supporting both small meetings and large, combined sessions.
Project Outcome
The Head Start training center now feels transformed. Staff walk into any room and immediately have the confidence to launch a meeting, connect a laptop, or bring in remote colleagues without technical hiccups. Large combined rooms now function like professional board chambers, while smaller rooms provide flexible setups for day-to-day workshops.
By standardizing the AV experience while tailoring solutions to each space, LACOE gained a future-ready environment. The upgrade doesn’t just deliver sharper visuals and clearer audio—it strengthens collaboration, saves time, and ensures that educators and staff can focus on what matters most: preparing young learners and supporting families across Los Angeles County.
