Fresno City College project profiles

Established in 1910, Fresno City College is a vibrant learning community committed to meeting the diverse needs of its students while driving regional economic and social growth. To enhance communication and operational efficiency at its West Fresno Campus, the college partnered with EIDIM to upgrade its AV systems and supporting infrastructure.

Project Description

The project encompasses the full installation of Owner-Furnished Contractor-Installed (OFCI) audiovisual (AV) systems and supporting infrastructure to boost the campus’s communication and operational capabilities. This includes setting up Intermediate Distribution Frame (IDF) cabinets in the ATC A/C/E buildings, completing electrical work, and terminating existing data cables. The fiber and conduit installations will link back to the IDF rooms, and all the cabling will undergo testing to ensure optimal performance.

The scope also includes deploying AV systems, such as displays, sources, control equipment, and associated cabling, as well as a campus-wide paging system featuring speakers and cabling. A master clock system, including clocks and transmitters, will also be added to ensure precise time synchronization across the campus. Additionally, low-voltage communications wiring and essential electrical components, such as backboxes, conduits, and power supplies, will be integrated to guarantee functionality. This comprehensive upgrade supports the campus’s commitment to innovative technology.

Technology and Solutions Used:

Intermediate Distribution Frame (IDF):

The installation of Intermediate Distribution Frame (IDF) cabinets, combined with the deployment of fiber optic cables and conduits, forms the backbone of the campus’ communication network. This infrastructure ensures connectivity, enabling high-speed data transmission and reliable performance for all communication, control, and operational systems.

The IDF cabinets organize network equipment and connections centrally, simplify maintenance, enhance system scalability, and support the integration of advanced technologies. This is critical for maintaining uninterrupted connectivity across the campus, ensuring all systems function effectively.

Master Clock and Paging Systems:

Another solution in this project was a master clock together with clocks and transmitters  ensuring precision that provides timing signals to synchronize the slave clocks as part of a clock network inside the campus.

Paging systems were added to guarantee information dissemination will be convenient, and easy, and add security to the campus. This paging system is also important during emergency evacuations, medical-related emergencies, and other types of emergencies.

Project Outcome

The AV/IDF installation significantly enhanced the experience for administrators, staff, and students at Fresno City College’s West Fresno Campus. Through the campus’s communication and operational infrastructure modernization, the project improved daily interactions, fostered efficiency in the processes, and provided reliable tools for learning and collaboration. It directly supports the college’s mission to empower students to achieve their educational goals by integrating technology into their academic environment. With the advanced systems now in place, the West Fresno Campus is better equipped to meet the evolving needs of its diverse student body and foster an innovative, connected learning environment.
